Ethereum AML check for an ERC20 address

An Ethereum AML check shows whether an address is declined by the databases exchanges use on incoming deposits: Binance AML, AMLBot, PureFi, and TRM Labs. A 0x address exists on several networks at once, so each one gets its own check: Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, BNB Chain, Polygon, and Optimism, with 10 attempts on every network.

ERC20 tokens, USDT and USDC included, need no separate check: the result applies to the address, not the token.

Which networks are checked for a 0x address?

All the networks below share one address format, so a single address gets its own row on each. Rollups run on top of Ethereum and settle their transactions there, but AML databases judge the address on each network separately.

NetworkWhat it is
Ethereumthe base network, home of the ERC20 token standard
Basea rollup on top of Ethereum
Arbitruma rollup on top of Ethereum
Optimisma rollup on top of Ethereum
Polygona separate network compatible with Ethereum
BNB Chaina separate network with the BEP20 standard; see USDT BEP20

A single refusal on any of these networks makes the result “Address is flagged in AML databases”. If a network hasn’t answered, the result can’t turn green until it does.

Why does an Ethereum address have a checksum?

A 0x address can be written all in lowercase or in mixed case. Mixed case is an EIP-55 checksum: capital letters sit in specific places, and a mistake in a single character breaks the pattern.

If you paste a mixed-case address and the checksum doesn’t match, a character probably got lost or changed in copying. The bot won’t check such an address silently: it asks whether to check it as entered. An all-lowercase address is checked right away.

Names like name.eth aren’t accepted; the check needs the 0x address itself. Copy it from your wallet or an explorer.

How is an AML check different from Etherscan labels?

Explorers like Etherscan show public labels: an exchange’s address, a well-known contract, sometimes a phishing warning based on user reports. That’s useful, but it isn’t the whole picture.

  • an explorer label tells you who owns the address, when that’s known
  • an AML database judges whether the address is tied to illegal sources of money, indirect ties included
  • an exchange screening a deposit relies on AML databases, not on explorer labels

So an address with no labels on Etherscan can still be flagged in a database an exchange uses. The check shows exactly that answer.

How do I check an ERC20 address before a transfer?

  1. Copy the whole 0x address, with no spaces or extra characters.
  2. Paste it into the form above and press “Check”; the bot opens in Telegram and starts checking.
  3. Wait for every network to answer. Rows fill in as each one responds.
  4. Read the result. Each status is explained on the home page.

Common questions

Do I need separate checks for USDT, USDC, and ETH?

No. The result covers the whole address: databases decline or pass an address, not a particular token on it.

Why is the address flagged when Ethereum didn’t decline it?

The refusal came from another network, Arbitrum or BNB Chain for example. The flag belongs to the address, so a single declining network is enough for the address to show as flagged.

Can I check an address by its name.eth?

Not yet. Paste the 0x address itself: your wallet and any Ethereum explorer show it.
